Geophysical survey at Broadwell, Warwickshire

Client:
Coventry and District Archaeological Society
Date:
2013

MOLA Northampton’s Geophysical Survey team were asked to assess a site at Broadwell in Warwickshire ahead of a community archaeology project led by Coventry and District Archaeological Society.

The geophysical survey results and the interpretation of the data helped with the formation of a plan for future excavation.

The society was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to undertake a series of community-led archaeological investigations at the site of a Roman settlement. First detected by aerial photography and crop-marks the geophysical survey identified a far more extensive area of archaeological potential than had been indicated from the crop-marks. Our team taught local volunteers how to use magnetometers and went on to process and interpret the data collected, which the society used to form a plan for future excavation.
