Liz is one of MOLA’s Senior Conservators. She is responsible for preventive and interventive conservation and analysis of historic and archaeological artefacts to support excavation projects for MOLA. She is experienced in planning, costing and managing the conservation needs of large and complex excavations.
Liz undertakes contract conservation work and consultancy for museums and archives with archaeological, social history and ethnographic collections and other commercial archaeological units. She has presented papers at international and national conferences and contributed to articles for academic journals and popular books on archaeological conservation. For several years she was secretary of the UK Institute of Conservation (ICON) Archaeology Group.
At MOLA Liz has led and undertaken a number of high profile and complex conservation projects, including the large Roman and Medieval burial ground at Spitalfields, London; the investigative conservation and coordination of analytical specialists working on the internationally significant Anglo-Saxon princely chamber grave at Prittlewell, Essex, and preparation of the large ‘Seahenge’ timbers from Norfolk for display. Liz has also advised on conservation and collections care issues and priorities for many borough museums and other institutions with collections in Greater London, and provided condition surveying and advice on storage facilities for archaeological objects at a large heritage site in the Ukraine.
