Forensic Archaeology

MOLA provides forensic archaeology services to police forces in the south-east and across the UK through our agreement with Alecto Forensics. Our skilled and experienced staff work to Home Office and The Chartered Institute for Archaeologists’ national standards.

Our forensic archaeologists respond quickly when called on by police forces and provide accurate identification and expert recovery.

We advise on area searches, undertake identification and body recovery and act as expert witnesses. Our forensic archaeologists rapidly identify bones as either human or animal and accurately date human remains, facilitating radiocarbon dating if required.

For scene attendance please contact forensic@mola.org.uk or call 020 7410 2200.

Wherever possible, remains should be left in situ for our forensic archaeologists to examine.

Our team of Specialists comprises internationally acclaimed experts in a range of topics, from osteoarchaeology, environmental archaeology and archaeological conservation to period- and type-specific finds specialisms.
