He has worked on material from across Britain dating from the Palaeolithic to the post-medieval period but has a particular interest in Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman finds.

He has previously worked on fieldwork projects and museum collections in Scotland and recording objects as a volunteer with the Portable Antiquities Scheme in Hampshire and Essex.

Michael's Masters' Degree research was on Late Iron Age and early Roman metalwork. He is a member of the Roman Finds Group and a member of the steering group of the Later Prehistoric Finds Group.
