Archaeological Evaluation at Pineham North, Upton, Northamptonshire
Following geophysical and fieldwalking surveys, trial trench evaluation identified two areas of Roman settlement spanning the 1st to 4th centuries. One settlement had been occupied during the 1st to 2nd centuries, with curvilinear ditch systems replaced by rectilinear ditches. A second settlement area was in use between the 2nd and 4th centuries, perhaps as a direct successor. The ditches appear to form a system of rectilinear enclosures, and clusters of postholes and pits may denote the presence of timber buildings.
