New CITiZAN Discovery Programmes awarded National Lottery funding to target regions where coastal archaeology is vulnerable to extreme erosion
Pier Gardens, Central Promenade, Cleethorpes
Meeting point: Pier Gardens on the Central Promenade
Join the Humberside Discovery Programme team as they take a walk along the foreshore on Cleethorpes Beach as part of CITiZAN's Festival of Archaeology 2019 celebrations.
You'll be introduced to the remains of early landscapes of the Cleethorpes waterfront and visit some of the exposed elements of a Bronze Age submerged forest. Not only that, you'll also be able to spot a number of shipwreck remains further out to sea from the promenade and discuss the development of Cleethorpes as a tourist desination during the 19th and 20th centuries.
The team will meet infront of the waterfall in the Pier Gardens on the Central Promenade at 2pm. There will be an introduction, chance to meet the team and then the walk will begin. It will take approximately 2 hours and there will be lots of opportunities for questions.
Please note that wellies are essential for this walk.
