The Community Archaeologists at MOLA lead community engagement projects and support our clients’ community engagement initiatives. The award-winning team manages the long-running Thames Discovery Programme and CITiZAN (Coastal and Intertidal Zone Archaeological Network), facilitate community digs and host events, including walks, talks, hands-on workshop and conferences.
Senior Community Archaeologist
Helen is a Senior Community Archaeologist with the award-winning Thames Discovery Programme. She is working on a three year project funded by City Bridge Trust to run a programme of activities engaging with Londoners aged over 75 years. She also supports the Foreshore Recording and Observation Group volunteers to monitor and record archaeology on the Thames foreshore.
Helen has a BA in Archaeology from the University of York, and an MA in Environment, Culture and Society from Lancaster University. She worked as a Diversity Adviser for The Scout Association before moving to the Heritage Lottery Fund to develop policies and guidance to increase young people’s involvement in heritage projects. She has experience of managing volunteer programmes at a number of organisations including Diabetes UK, RNIB and Parkinson’s UK. She has volunteered with the Thames Discovery Programme for more than five years, coordinating the Greenwich Foreshore Recording and Observation Group.
