As Senior Geoarchaeologist for MOLA, Phil uses geo-scientific approaches to reconstruct past landscapes and assess the archaeological potential of sites. Phil has worked on a wide variety of projects across Britain and Ireland, and has a particular interest in Bronze Age and Iron Age wetland archaeology. He has a range of specialist skills, including expertise in palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, analysis of chronological data and deposit modelling.

Phil joined MOLA’s Geoarchaeology team in 2017 and he has more than a decade of experience working across both commercial and academic sectors as an excavator, post-doctoral researcher, and geoarchaeologist. Phil’s PhD research investigated the relationships between Holocene climatic variability and peatland archaeological sites in central Ireland. Phil is a member of several professional bodies and societies including the Association for Environmental Archaeology and the Quaternary Research Association. Alongside his commercial work for MOLA, he maintains an active research profile and regularly presents papers at international conferences and publishes in peer-reviewed journals.
