Postponed: CITiZAN Walking Workshop: Bantham to Hope Cove

Bantham Beach Car Park Bantham Kingsbridge TQ7 3AN

At MOLA we take the health and welfare of our staff, volunteers and the wider community very seriously and have therefore taken the decision to postpone or cancel all public events for the next four weeks in order to help safeguard against the spread of COVID-19. This means we will not be running any events – indoor or outdoor – until at least 14 April 2020.

In line with UK government guidance, we feel this is the responsible thing to do and is an important precautionary measure to help keep people safe. We will be contacting everyone who has previously signed up to attend one of our events to advise them of our decision.

We will continue to review the situation and look forward to resuming our engagement events programme when it is safe to do so. If you have any queries or concerns in the meantime, then please contact Magnus Copps mcopps@mola.org.uk/07801 572848

Join CITiZAN for a walking workshop, which takes you along the stunning Devon Coastline up to the infamous Hope cove. During the walk, we will be stopping at various archaeological sites to confirm update and record our Coastal heritage at risk. The sites on this stretch vary from lost Roman settlements, various pillboxes, Smuggler coves and a potential submerged forest.

These hikes are to look for the weird and wonderful that has been identified in the Historic Environment Records and confirm its presence and record or update the record if it is still there, and the CITiZAN team will be on hand to answer any archaeology questions that you have along the way.

Please ensure you bring lunch and appropriate clothing and footwear. Note that this is a large hike from Bantham Beach to Hope cove and back again.

The idea behind a walking workshop is to introduce the public to the CITiZAN project and the app, which allow us to record, monitor and identify our coastal heritage prior to its inevitable erosion due to climate change & coastal erosion.

The walks will take place on known coastal paths and track-ways, with low tide excursion where appropriate.

The day starts with a quick on the move introduction to the app and how it works the group will then walk along the paths stopping along the way at archaeological sites to record and monitor alongside our maritime archaeologists who will happily answer any and all questions if they are able.

Limited spaces, Tickets will be available via the Eventbrite Page
