2014The site was originally on land known as 'Nelson's Fields' as it once belonged to Merton Place, a large house bought by Lady Hamilton for Horatio Nelson in 1801.
Truncated natural gravelly sand was exposed across the site sloping down from the north-east to the south-west, consistent with the general terrain in the area.
