As Director of Research, I am responsible for MOLA's research output, both from the results of commercial excavation and grant-funded research, as well as supporting collaborative projects with other institution such as universities. I am the strategic lead for post-excavation assessment, research and dissemination of our infrastructure projects, such as Crossrail, Tideway Tunnel, HS2, and the A14 road improvement scheme. I also have the key role of planning and leading our strategy for post-excavation work, including continuing to develop new methods for disseminating our findings.

In 2014 I secured our Independent Research Organisation (IRO) status, allowing us to access research grant funding. We are the first archaeological contractor to be awarded IRO status, demonstrating the contribution our developer-funded work makes to archaeological understanding and academia.

In my early career I worked on a variety of archaeological projects, including a field walking survey of Hampshire County Council land, as well as sites in Barbados and France. I joined the Department of Greater London Archaeology in 1986 and remained a Field Archaeologist with the Museum of London until 2005.

I have published a number of peer-reviewed journal articles, as well as significant MOLA monographs, including The eastern cemetery of Roman London: excavations 1983–1990  and The London Guildhall: an archaeological history of a neighbourhood from early medieval to modern times.
