I lead our grant-funded research projects, doctoral studentships, fellowships, and collaborations with higher education, as the only archaeology unit that is a UKRI Independent Research Organisation. I also oversee our Collaborative Doctoral Partnership studentships and AHRC Impact Acceleration Account.
I am an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Leicester, and a member of the AHRC and UKRI Talent Peer Review Colleges. I was previously Secretary of the Society for Post-Medieval Archaeology and a member of the CHAT (Contemporary and Historical Archaeology in Theory) steering committee.
Before joining MOLA in 2018, I worked as the Enterprise Fellow for Heritage at the University of Leicester, establishing collaborative and contract research projects between academic staff and heritage sector organisations. These knowledge exchange activities ensured teaching and research into heritage continued to inform, and be informed by, professional practice. Earlier in my career I was a Senior Archaeologist in MOLA’s built heritage team, undertaking building recording and analysis for the London Overground and 2012 Olympic Park, among many other projects.
My research interests include later historical and contemporary archaeology, and intersections between professional and academic practice. My PhD examined late 19th and early 20th century social housing, and how early housing policies and attitudes continue to shape housing estates.
