A programme of long running stone quarrying by Peter Bennie Ltd, at Harlestone to the west of Northampton, began in 2001. To discharge planning conditions MOLA’s archaeologists excavated the site periodically in advance of new phases of extraction.

Close communication with the client enabled us to meet the planning condition set on this long running quarry extraction site.

The successful management of the archaeology for this long-standing and extensive quarry scheme was made possible by establishing a relationship of trust with the client. Our work ensured that Peter Bennie Ltd’s quarrying met requirements set by the local authority, at the same time we examined an extensive area of Northamptonshire’s prehistoric landscape.
