We are delighted to have curated a pop-up display for The Land of the Fanns, showcasing the fascinating history, archaeology and heritage of the area across which the Land of the Fanns project operates, an ancient landscape straddling the London – Essex boundary and covering Thurrock, Barking & Dagenham, Havering, Brentwood.

The Land of the Fanns Landscape Partnership Project is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and aims to help local people to discover, enjoy and take pride in their local landscape. MOLA archaeologists are bringing together artefacts on behalf of the Land of the Fanns that reveal the history that can be found beneath our feet.

The display, which is touring local festivals and events from June to October 2019, reveals how the Land of the Fanns, once made up of fens, forests and farms, has developed over the centuries; the area’s vital role in creation of wealth; its strategic importance in the world wars and its links to great trade routes of the world via the Thames. There is a great deal of this heritage still visible in the local landscape, remnants that people may not be aware of in their local area but can discover in this display.

Display dates and locations – all events are free and run from 10am – 4pm:

No booking is required - just turn up.
