Senior Finds Specialist (Pottery and Finds)

Lyn is one of MOLA’s Senior Finds Specialists, specialising in pottery and finds. She has 38 years’ experience of archaeological finds research and is an internationally recognised expert in Saxon finds. Her role involves the identification, assessment and publication of pottery and finds from excavations, assistance with the formulation of policies and programmes relating to finds research, and finds illustration and liaison with external specialists.

Lyn’s finds and pottery knowledge encompasses all periods from the prehistoric to post-medieval, and particular specialism is the Saxon period (AD 400-900), with special reference to the London area. Her work has contributed greatly to our understanding of the development of Lundenwic and she has written numerous publications on the subject.

Lyn speaks and reads several languages, and has undertaken work in France, Italy and Norway, the latter leading to work as joint Guest Researcher at the University of Bergen. She was for five years Co-Editor of the Journal Medieval Ceramics, and is currently Assistant Treasurer of the Medieval Pottery Research Group. She regularly speaks at conferences and to local societies and is an elected member of the International Sachsensymposion Research Group.
