Nigel is a Senior Specialist at MOLA, experienced in handling, characterising, recording and researching medieval and later pottery, glass and ceramic clay tobacco pipes.

Nigel has extensive experience of writing for both academic and commercial projects and has a particular interest in the material culture of 17th and 19th-century London. He is one of the principal individuals involved with ‘The Biographies of London life’; a recent research manifesto focussing on the potential of the London Archaeological Archives and Research Centres (LAARC) later collections. These concerns led to a successful application to the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) with Alastair Owens (Principal Investigator, Queen Mary, University of London. Award no: AH/E002285/1, July 2007–March 2008).

Nigel is the author of numerous academic articles, papers and books, is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA) and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
